TAORMINA FILM FEST 2019

track01

The Taormina Film Fest cuts the finish line of the 65th edition in 2019 and renews itself, not only in its graphic appearance but also in that pertaining strictly to the editorial content line. From the stage of the Ancient Theater of Taormina, the largest outdoor cinema in the world, the brightest stars of the international firmament and the most acclaimed excellences in the panorama of the Seventh Art have passed. And these will never fail in Taormina, a privileged destination of international divism and the natural muse of the big screen. The 65 edition, therefore, sees at the center of the editorial line a composite structuring of the International Competition and the return of a regulation - which can be consulted online - which, with particular regard to its three leading sections, reintroduces and institutionalizes the historical awards of the Review, guaranteeing and adapting to the tradition a respectful awarding policy. Within a clear and well-circumscribed editorial line, a rich, substantial and heterogeneous international competition is organized, which hopes to return increasingly central in what historically stands as the second oldest festival just after the Venice Film Festival . In this edition, over 20 nationalities will take part, in three special categories intended respectively for feature films, documentaries and first or second or independent and low budget works. This last section is intended for the vision and judgment of a jury composed of university students, actively involved in masterclasses and dedicated screenings (to the director who won the same section an official indemnity award is given by Paola Ferrari De Benedetti). In the program schedule also feature-length films out of competition, including works by established or emerging authors, in which the filmic narrative is accompanied by characteristic forms of expressive or genre originality, new aesthetic and expressive tendencies. Inside the section there is also a non-competitive selection of short films, chosen on the basis of quality and linguistic-expressive peculiarities. This decade's epilogue also sees the fortunate evening return of 6 expected titles of international cinema in the evocative setting of the Ancient Theater destined for the general public, with no restrictions on gender and destination. Theater that will host as many evening awards, in addition to the closing ceremony. The festival, already present during the Season Awards in Los Angeles, as part of the Los Angeles Italy Film Festival, is officially presented on May 15 on the Croisette of the Cannes Film Festival and respectfully boasts of being a partner of the Silver Ribbons of the National Syndicate of Italian Film Journalists who, on June 29th, immediately precede the event. A total of over 70 screenings in the original language with subtitles in Italian or English which, including previews, recoveries, tributes and presentations, restores dignity and centrality to the Competition and to cinematography.

The poster

65° Taormina Film Fest

The poster of 65° Taormina Film Fest, signed by Daniela Monaco, is dedicated to the sensual play admirably personified by the famous dancing scene in the movie "The conformist" by Bernardo Bertolucci, which is ideally paid a tribute to the memory. Are the sinuous, elegant and provocative movements of the two faint stars of the big screen - eternate and sublimated to the best in more than one film of the great Master who recently passed away - earning the middle of the track and the scene under the astonished gaze of Jean-Louis Trintignant and unwitting bystanders. A bow around which solves the composed elegance of the bourgeois Giulia Stefania Sandrelli, the betrothed of a professor of philosophy and light-fascist Jean Louis-Trintignant, who came to Paris to kill professor Quadri, a political dissident who took refuge in France, and husband of the fair Anna Dominique Sanda, who had so impressed the director, "so beautiful, So sweet" by Robert Bresson. Suspicion, provocation, hostility and seduction. But in the couple's relationship that exemplifies the dance in the mask of fascism, there are two especially bright stars that have shone in the summers of taormina. Here do it under the auspices of a great filmmaker who, already in '65, he presented to Taormina "Before the revolution", sitting in the audience of the Ancient Theatre at the side of a beaming Adriana Asti
